see more specVMware vSAN delivers a software-defined approach for virtual machines that creates shared storage. By virtualising local physical storage resources of ESXi host and turning them into divisible pools of storage, virtual machines and applications can be accordingly assigned through quality-of-service requirements.
VMware vSAN has powered the Hyperconverged Infrastructure of over 17,000 organisations and counting. vSAN provides IT organisations with a solution to digital transformation such as:
VMware vSAN Ready Nodes deploys hyper-converged solutions that provide you with the ability to manage compute, network and storage resources from a single pane of management. Infrastructure solutions integrated with VMware software providing you with a different approach than the traditional Fiber Channel SAN.
VMware vSAN Ready Nodes introduce a new high performance storage tier optimised for enterprise-class virtual environments that is simple, resilient and efficient that reduces the total cost of ownership. It is a perfect solution for Enterprises ROBO and SMBs to efficiently grow and manage virtualised infrastructure for maximum ROI.
The VMware vSAN Ready Node is a preconfigured single-node or multi-node server hardware configuration for use with vSAN. The configuration includes type of CPU, Memory, Flash, HDD and IO Controller devices within each server. Each of the configurations provides a different price/performance focus with the target of multiple case requirements.
32 vSAN Enterprise licenses are needed. Data-at-rest encryption is a feature included only in the Enterprise edition of vSAN.
The best choice would be vSAN for Desktop Advanced or Enterprise licenses (two CCU 100-packs), however, it is possible to license this cluster with vSAN for Desktop Standard licenses. The Standard license editions also support the use of all-flash hardware, but Advanced and Enterprise licenses enable the use of deduplication, compression, and erasure coding. This vSAN space efficiency features typically provide a considerable reduction in the cost per usable gigabyte of capacity.
The recommended licensing is 40 vSAN Standard per-CPU licenses to properly license this cluster. As there are some virtual desktops use in this cluster, vSAN for Desktop licensing cannot be used due to non-desktop workloads present.
This scenario requires either 1 vSAN ENT for ROBO (per-VM 25-pack) or 12 vSAN ENT per CPU licenses. The Stretched Cluster feature is only available in ENT edition of vSAN.
With less than 25 virtual machines running at this office, vSAN for ROBO Standard licenses can be used. vSAN for ROBO Advanced licenses allows for deduplication, compression, and erasure coding features. vSAN for ROBO Enterprise licenses enables data at rest encryption and stretched cluster with local failure protection features.
Since the number of virtual machines is more than 25, vSAN for ROBO licenses cannot be used. 6 vSAN Standard per-CPU licenses are required due as there is three hosts each with two CPUs. We recommend vSAN Advanced licenses as it would enable deduplication, compression, and erasure coding since this is an all-flash configuration. However, a minimum of four hosts are required for erasure coding.
A 25 pack of vSAN for ROBO Standard licenses would cover the first and second remote offices. In addition, the third remote office requires four vSAN Standard licenses due to there being more than 25 virtual machines running at this location.
As vSAN for ROBO licenses only enable up to 25 VMs to be licensed at a single remote office location. In this situation, the number of VMs at the remote office has exceeded the 25 VMs limit. The vSAN for ROBO licenses must be replaced with per-CPU licenses (vSAN Standard, Advanced, or Enterprise). There is no collaboration from vSAN for ROBO to vSAN per-CPU licenses. The vSAN for ROBO licenses could be repurposed for another remote office location with 25 VMs or less.
This scenario requires 24 vSAN Enterprise per-CPU licenses. The witness virtual appliance includes a vSAN license.
This scenario requires either 1 vSAN STD for ROBO (per-VM 25-pack) or 4 vSAN STD per CPU licenses.
This scenario requires either 1 vSAN STD for ROBO (per-VM 25-pack) or 4 vSAN STD per CPU licenses. Customers don’t need ENT licenses for a 2-node cluster stretched across 2 physical site.
This scenario requires either 1 vSAN ENT for ROBO (per-VM 25-pack) or 12 vSAN ENT per CPU licenses. The Stretched cluster feature is only available in ENT edition of vSAN.
